MERCEDES-AMG TEAM HRT EAGER TO CONTINUE DTM STREAK OF SUCCESS AT THE NÜRBURGRING – TEAM OWNER HUBERT HAUPT TO WRITE MOTORSPORT HISTORY

PREVIEW | 17 August, 2021 | Nürburg

Hubert Haupt could not have chosen a better venue for his DTM comeback: At the Nürburgring of all places the "home race" for the young team from Meuspath, which was founded only one year ago the 52-year-old will return to the series for a guest start. HRT is approaching the fourth DTM event of the season with optimism and, after one overall victory and two more podium finishes during the first three race weekends, is looking to cause a stir in the Eifel as well.

For the first time this season, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT will enter a DTM round with three cars. As usual, Maximilian Götz (GER) in the pink #4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of team sponsor BWT and Vincent Abril (MCO) in the yellow-blue Bilstein GT3 (#5) will be on the grid.

In addition, there will be another Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Hubert Haupt (GER) for both races on the 3.629 kilometer sprint track of the Nürburgring. Donning a noble, black and white livery of the new team partner PLAYBOY, the #6 car is a true eyecatcher.

For Haupt, the races at the Nürburgring will mark his first ones in the series in 20 years as the last time he sat behind the wheel of a DTM car was in 2001; Haupt had celebrated his series debut in the early 1990s as a factory driver for Audi. When the starting flag drops for the first race of the DTM weekend at the Nürburgring on Saturday, Hubert Haupt will be the first driver with entries in all three eras of the DTM, writing motorsport history once again.

Maximilian Götz, #4 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT: “We have made an excellent start into the DTM season as a team. But we won't be resting on what we have achieved so far. Being in the third place of the drivers' standings, I want to keep collecting points, ideally as early as next weekend at the Nürburgring.”

Vincent Abril, #5 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT: „The Nürburgring is always a highlight for any driver. I’m delighted to race there with the DTM and I’m confident that I will be able to score valuable points for our team. The last few races were very unfortunate for me, so I’m hoping for more luck this time.”

Hubert Haupt, Teambesitzer HRT / #6 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT: "I've been looking forward to taking my seat in the cockpit at a DTM race again after 20 years for weeks. The fact that I will celebrate my comeback at the Nürburgring, of all places, makes it all the more enjoyable. But first and foremost, it's about having fun and enjoying the great atmosphere as a DTM driver once again."

Sean Paul Breslin, Teamchef HRT: "We've shown strong performances as a team in recent weeks, especially in the DTM, and were able to celebrate some great successes in the process. We want to build on this and compete for a top position at the Nürburgring as well. We are entering the race weekend with lots of optimism!"
