MERCEDES-AMG TEAM HRT APPROACHES THE SECOND DTM WEEKEND AT THE LAUSITZRING WITH OPTIMISM

PREVIEW | 21 July, 2021 |

After a promising start into the season at Autodromo Nazionale Monza scoring two podium finishes, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT is approaching the second DTM racing weekend at the Lausitzring in optimistic mood and full of anticipation.

The team from Meuspath will enter the season’s first event of the top-class series on German soil with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 #4, sporting the pink design of BWT, will be piloted around the 4.562 kilometer circuit by Maximilian Götz. Vincent Abril will take his place at the wheel of the #5 sister car, which will compete in the familiar blue and yellow Bilstein livery.

For the first time since 2003, the competitors drive the first banked corner of the Lausitzring. This special track layout should ensure even more spectacular racing moments – especially for the spectators on site, of whom up to 10,000 are permitted thanks to a special hygiene concept.

Maximilian Götz, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #4: "I'm really looking forward to the Lausitzring, also because we don't know exactly what's in store for us with the banked corner in the first turn. I want to do well, take home a few championship points and maybe even a trophy. I think the fans can look forward to a great race weekend!"

Vincent Abril, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #5: "We can build on our very strong first DTM weekend at Monza. What we learned there as a team and I as a driver, we will take with us into this race and try to be successful at the Lausitzring as well. I'm motivated, in good shape and ready to race!"

Uli Fritz, CEO Haupt Racing Team GmbH: "The Lausitzring is a track steeped in tradition in the DTM and this year, it will be particularly exciting now that the banked corner in turn 1 is being used. That will certainly be a spectacle! We're looking forward to the fans finally being there again after such a long time, who will of course provide a very special atmosphere."
