MERCEDES-AMG TEAM HRT HIGHLY MOTIVATED FOR THE 2021 DTM SEASON OPENER IN MONZA

PREVIEW | 16 June, 2021 |

The Haupt Racing Team will start its DTM debut season with two rounds at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The team from Meuspath fields two top-class Mercedes-AMG GT3s: while Maximilian Götz will drive the car with the starting number 4 in the BWT’s pink livery, Vincent Abril will be at the wheel of the #5 in the blue and yellow full-car design by team partner Bilstein. Both cars will compete with extended support from Affalterbach and take on the DTM, which will be contested with GT3 cars for the first time this year, under the official entry "Mercedes-AMG Team HRT".

Maximilian Götz, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #4: "It's about time! We've had promising test days at the Hockenheimring and the Lausitzring and want to take this momentum with us. We're definitely well prepared for the season opener although tension is naturally very high before the first race!"

Vincent Abril, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #5: "It's the first DTM race weekend of my career and I'm full of anticipation. I have always followed the DTM and it has always been a goal of mine to compete in this racing series. The fact that the season starts in Monza suits me because I know the circuit quite well."

Uli Fritz, Managing Director of Haupt Racing Team GmbH: "We are delighted to be competing in the DTM. We have prepared ourselves conscientiously for this new, highly competitive challenge and were able to gain positive insights during the test drives. However, the test results are still to be taken with a pinch of salt before all the cards are laid on the table in the first qualifying and race of the season. That's always a very special moment for me personally - and hopefully a first highlight for our team."

Sean Paul Breslin, team principal HRT: "The wait is over: After all the preparations, the new DTM season is finally upon us. We're all excited to get started and the whole team is travelling to Monza highly motivated. We can't wait to hit the track with our two Mercedes-AMG GT3s."
