HRT E-SPORTS LINES UP IN THE GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE ESPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP

PRESS INFORMATION | 21 May, 2021 |

Following the start of the season on the real racetrack, the Haupt Racing Team is now set to hit the virtual track this weekend. Next up on the schedule for the HRT eSports Team is the opening race of the Endurance Cup within the GT World Challenge Europe Esports Championship.

  • Opening round of the Endurance Cup in the GT World Challenge Europe Esports Championship
  • Strong line-up for HRT eSports, with Ben Hitz and Lucas Müller

After meticulous preparations, the HRT eSports Team is all set for the first race of the Endurance Cup in the GT World Challenge Europe Esports Championship on 22nd May. In line with the philosophy of the Haupt Racing Team, HRT will go head to head with the best drivers and teams in both the real and virtual versions of the Endurance Cup in the fiercely-competitive SRO series.

Alternating at the wheel of the #4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for the HRT eSports Team during the three-hour season-opener will be Ben Hitz and Lucas Müller (both GER). 19-year-old Hitz is one of two newcomers in the HRT eSports Team and already has a wealth of experience in the Assetto Corsa Competizione simulation, on which the series is held. Lucas Müller claimed the maiden race victory for the HRT eSports Team in last season’s GT World Challenge America Esports Championship. That victory came at the circuit in Monza, which also hosts this weekend’s race.

The eSports version of the GT World Challenge Europe sees drivers and teams do battle for points on the same circuits and over the identical race distance as the real races, only at a later time. The highlight of the season is the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, which will take place one week after the real race.

Dates for the GT World Challenge Europe Esports Championship Endurance Cup:

  • 22nd May Autodromo Nazionale Monza (3h)
  • 5th June Circuit Paul Ricard (6h)
  • 7th - 8th August Spa-Francorchamps (24h)
  • 11th September Nürburgring (6h)
  • 16th October Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona (3h)

Danny Giusa, Team manager HRT eSports
“The start of the GTWC Esports Championship sees the HRT eSports Team line up in one of the strongest sim racing series in the world. Together with our sim racing race engineer, Florian Denzler, our drivers Ben Hitz and Lucas Müller have invested over a month in preparations and set-up work. We must now convert the foundations we have laid into a successful race result.”

The race can be followed on Saturday, May 22 from 17:00 (CEST) on the Youtube channel of the organizer.
