HRT STARTS IN THE ENDURANCE CUP WITHIN THE GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE

PRESS INFORMATION | 18 March, 2021 |

The Haupt Racing Team will go in pursuit of victory in the endurance races within the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS. Like last year, the German team plans to run two Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars, one of which will set its sights on the overall title, the other on the Silver Cup. Maro Engel, Luca Stolz (both GER) and Vincent Abril (FRA) have already been confirmed as drivers for the Pro car. In the Silver Cup, team owner Hubert Haupt, Patrick Assenheimer (both GER) and Ricardo Sánchez (MEX) will share the driving duties. The high-class European endurance racing series consists of five races in 2021, the highlight of which is the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

  • HRT to field two Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Endurance Cup within the GT World Challenge Europe
  • Top-class driver line-up in the Pro class and the Silver Cup

HRT is once again taking on the top teams in international GT racing. Former DTM driver Hubert Haupt’s team will again line up with two Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Endurance Cup within this season’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS. In its rookie year in 2020, the new team immediately impressed with strong performances and two podiums in the highly-competitive series. In the Silver Cup, HRT claimed a class victory at the legendary 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and finished runner-up in the Team and Driver competitions.

Team principal Sean Paul Breslin is looking to continuity in the cockpit in the 2021 Endurance Cup: last year’s successful trio of Maro Engel, Luca Stolz and Vincent Abril have already been confirmed as the drivers of the works-assisted Mercedes-AMG GT3. Hubert Haupt will again take his place at the wheel of the designated Silver Cup car. The former DTM driver will be supported by Patrick Assenheimer and newcomer Ricardo Sánchez, who will make his debut for the Haupt Racing Team at the opening round of the season in Monza, which is scheduled to take place in April.

In addition to the five Endurance Cup races in the GT World Challenge Europe, HRT will also embark on another very demanding programme of endurance racing at the Nürburgring and on the Nordschleife. The infamous Eifel circuit, the team’s home track, will provide the venue when HRT lines up in selected races in the 2021 Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), as well as the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race.

Sean Paul Breslin, team principal HRT: “The GT World Challenge Endurance Cup is Europe’s toughest endurance series for GT3 cars. Here, we are up against the best teams, drivers and manufacturers on the continent. We caught the eye last year as a newcomer in this high-class environment. We are now looking to back that up in the 2021 season. Our goal is to challenge for the title in both the Silver Cup and the overall competition.”
