The Haupt Racing Team will line up in the DTM in 2021. Former DTM driver Hubert Haupt’s team will field two Mercedes-AMG GT3. The German team will receive support in the DTM from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. Exactly who will go in pursuit of points at the wheel of the two HRT cars when the season kicks off in Monza in June 2021 is yet to be confirmed. However, fans can look forward to a top-class driver line-up, which will be announced shortly.
- Haupt Racing Team to run two Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the 2021 DTM
- Extensive programme outside the DTM too, including major international endurance races
The involvement in the DTM in 2021 sees team owner Hubert Haupt come full circle: The entrepreneur and racing driver from Munich enjoyed success as a driver with Audi in the 1991 and 1992 DTM seasons, and also drove for Opel in the touring car series in 2001. He now returns with his own team, which was founded in June 2020, to take his place in the history books of the new DTM, which will feature GT3 cars for the first time from this season.
Based at the Nürburgring, the Haupt Racing Team will field two Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the series. As a factory-assisted DTM team, HRT will receive support from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport – the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach.
As well as the eight DTM race weekends, with a total of 16 races, HRT will also embark on a challenging GT3 programme outside the DTM in 2021. This includes endurance races in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS, which includes the iconic 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. In Germany, HRT will line up in selected races within the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), and will take on the highlight of the Nürburgring season at the start of June: the legendary ADAC TOTAL 24h Race.
Hubert Haupt, team owner HRT: “I am really looking forward to the DTM. This series is closely linked with my own personal career as a racing driver – and now as a team owner too. We only started out with HRT in the middle of 2020, and have already claimed some major successes on the GT3 scene as a Mercedes-AMG Performance Team. Entering the DTM is now the logical next step for us. We know it is going to be a huge challenge, but that is exactly what we love. All of us here at HRT are passionate about motorsport and will take our usual professional approach to this challenge.”
