Following his GT3 debut last season, Fabio Scherer (SUI) will once again compete for the Haupt Racing Team in a Ford Mustang GT3. His extensive 2026 racing schedule focuses primarily on endurance racing. It includes appearances in the ADAC RAVENOL Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, and the Endurance Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

  • Fabio Scherer to remain with HRT in 2026
  • Extensive Nordschleife program planned
  • Full season in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup

Fabio Scherer is taking the next major step in his racing career and will face further major challenges alongside HRT. The Swiss driver can already look back on a long career and several successes in motorsports, including a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Last year, Scherer made his debut in GT3 racing and got off to a strong start in the Ford Mustang GT3. In the DTM, he drew attention with solid performances but often lacked the racing luck needed to secure top positions. On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where he also competed in a Ford Mustang GT3 in the second half of the year, he set a new qualifying record in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) with a lap time of 7:48.717 minutes, securing his first overall podium finish on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

This year, Scherer will focus more on endurance racing. Competing in the NLS, the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, and the season’s highlight, the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, the 26-year-old will drive one of HRT’s Ford Mustang GT3s. At the Nürburgring, Fabio Scherer will take on the challenge of the 24-hour race in a GT3 car for the first time. The GT World Challenge Europe is considered one of the toughest and most competitive GT3 racing series worldwide. In the Endurance Cup, individual races are held over distances of three, six, and 24 hours. With regularly over 50 cars on the grid, the competition is extremely popular. In the five races of the season, which also include the iconic CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, Scherer will compete for championship points in the PRO category in the Ford Mustang GT3.

HRT is looking forward to the upcoming season with optimism. With Fabio Scherer, the team has a versatile and experienced driver on its roster who has proven his skills in both prototype and GT racing. The combination of a proven team structure and the upgraded Ford Mustang GT3 provides a promising foundation for a successful season.

Fabio Scherer: “I’m really looking forward to the 2026 season and continuing to work with HRT and Ford Racing. The Ford Mustang GT3 is a fascinating car, and the races on the Nordschleife and in the GT World Challenge Europe are among the highlights of GT racing. I’m highly motivated to fight for top results together with the team.”

Ulrich Fritz, Chief Executive Officer Haupt Racing Team: “We are very happy that Fabio will remain with our team in 2026—not only as a driver but also as a person. He brings exactly the passion and ambition needed for such a demanding program. The combination of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the 24-hour race, and the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup demands absolute dedication. Together with him and the Ford Mustang GT3, we want to make a strong statement in 2026. We are convinced that, as a team, we have the potential to compete at the front and offer fans thrilling motorsport.”
