ANOTHER DTM PODIUM FOR MERCEDES-AMG TEAM HRT AT THE RED BULL RING

PRESS INFORMATION | 25 September, 2022 | Spielberg / Austria

With a second place for Luca Stolz (GER), Mercedes-AMG Team HRT rewards itself at the race on the Red Bull Ring in Styria and collects further important points in the final sprint for the championship. Arjun Maini also scores points at the race on Sunday.

  • Luca Stolz scores points in both DTM races
  • Arjun Maini also with points at Sunday's race
  • Fastest pit stop for Mercedes-AMG Team HRT on Sunday

Freaky weather at the Red Bull Ring showed completely different race days in Styria. However, the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT struggled in qualifying and had to start the race from challenging positions on both days. Arjun Maini, however, showed an impressive race pace with his #36 Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the colours of team-partner PAUL in the first race, when he was turned around by an opponent in the first lap and drove from the last position up to the final 13th position - in the field of 27 GT3 cars. Luca Stolz fought with blunt weapons, but still secured a championship point with 10th place.

The race on Sunday went much better and thanks to a very early stop by Stolz, he was able to make up many positions in free driving and so the 27-year-old Brachbacher secured an excellent 2nd place in the blue and yellow Bilstein Mercedes-AMG GT3 with the starting number #4. Arjun Maini again showed his driving quality and rewarded himself and the HRT with a 4th place and thus also secured 12 valuable championship points for the drivers' and team standings. In the overall standings, Luca Stolz is currently 28 points behind the leader in sixth place. In Hockenheim (7-9 October) - the finale of the 2022 DTM season - up to 58 points can still be awarded.

Luca Stolz, #4 Mercedes-AMG GT3: "Sunday's race was real satisfaction for the messed-up Saturday at the Red Bull Ring. By stopping early, we made the right strategic decision - which then allowed me to drive without any traffic. It was a real team effort and I'm very happy to gain finish second as well as being the best Mercedes-AMG out of seven."

Arjun Maini, #36 Mercedes-AMG GT3: "I'm very happy with my race on Sunday. I was finally able to get a result with my pace. I like the Red Bull Ring - and now even a little bit more. It was very challenging today - but it was also a lot of fun to drive in these conditions."

Ulrich Fritz, CEO Haupt Racing Team GmbH: "Luca Stolz's podium finish today was a real team effort. Strategically, it was absolutely the right decision to call him so early for the mandatory stop and the pit crew did an excellent job by delivering the fastest stop in the entire field.”
