PRESS INFORMATION | 15 February, 2022 |

HRT has rearranged its team for the 2022 DTM season, which kicks off at the end of April: Mercedes-AMG Performance driver Luca Stolz (GER) and Arjun Maini (IND) will drive the two Mercedes-AMG Team HRT cars at the eight race weekends in the fiercely-competitive series.

  • Luca Stolz and Arjun Maini form new driving duo

In Luca Stolz, Haupt Racing Team has acquired an experienced driver who, at 26 years of age, has already enjoyed many notable successes. Stolz’s breakthrough came in 2018, when he finished on the podium at the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours. He was in action in multiple racing series in 2021, including for HRT in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and the two 24-hour classics at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps. The DTM is by no means uncharted territory for Stolz: he made a guest appearance in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 at the Nürburgring on the fourth race weekend of last season.

His new HRT team-mate Arjun Maini made his DTM debut in 2021, becoming the first Indian in the history of this competitive racing series. The 24-year-old took part in all of last season’s events and improved consistently from race to race. Maini’s best result of the season was second place on the final race weekend at the Norisring. Together with Luca Stolz, he now forms a powerful duo in the top-class DTM field.

Luca Stolz, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT: “I am really looking forward to the new DTM season and can hardly wait for it to get started. The DTM has put together a great race calendar, with fascinating events in Germany and other European countries. After four years in GT racing, I will be racing alone for the first time. That is a new challenge for me. All things considered, HRT did the best job in the DTM last season. As such, I am obviously glad to be starting for the team.”

Arjun Maini, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT: “HRT won the Driver title in last year’s DTM, which is an outstanding basis for the new season. I am very happy to contest my second DTM season with the team and want to back up my good performances from last year. I am sure that we will achieve some good results together, and am looking forward to the season-opener in Portimao.”

Ulrich Fritz, Managing Director of Haupt Racing Team: “Strategic aspects played the major role in the selection of our driver line-up for the 2022 DTM season – a decision that was made together with Mercedes-AMG. We are confident that, with Luca Stolz and Arjun Maini, we will line up with a very competitive package for Haupt Racing Team. We will not only remember the fantastic success we shared with Maximilian Götz last season, but I am sure that we will see him in an HRT cockpit again in the future. Until then, we would like to thank Max for last year’s cooperation and wish him a successful DTM season.”
